We are experiencing a mindfulness revolution as we become aware of the benefits of being mindful in our self-care, intimate relationships, and communication processes. We are also increasingly aware of how the practice of mindfulness can effect climate change, nature, our health, the health of our communities, and the health of the planet. When we cultivate a sense of connectedness to everything in nature and realize we all share only one Earth, we gain an immeasurable gift in return. As we cultivate mindfulness and self-compassion for ourselves, it ripples outward to others and transforms our relationship with our partners, families, communities, and the world.
The outcome of this certificate is for the learner to describe the characteristics of mindful self-care, intimate relationships, communication processes, and how mindfulness impacts climate change and human health.

Lesson 1
Mindful Self-Care
Mindful self-care is essential for your well-being. Caring for yourself is one of the most important things you can do for yourself, and it is also one of the easiest things to forget to do or put aside in favor of tending to others. Self-care habits, when done regularly, have the ability to greatly enhance your body, mind, and spirit. When you mindfully care for yourself, you benefit and so do others in your life.
The outcome of this lesson is for the learner to describe the importance of mindful self-care and self-care practices that support health and well-being.
Mindful Communication
Mindful communication means listening and speaking with intention, compassion, and awareness. It means being present. Intimate, complex, and necessary for our very survival, mindful communication can profoundly affect our overall health and wellness. Mindful communication not only transmits information, it helps us relate to each other as human beings in a context of relationships, cultures, families, organizations, and nations. What we say, how we say it, and what we mean are important and can be life changing.
The outcome of this lesson is for the learner to describe the various elements and guidelines of effective, mindful communication using compassion and awareness in relationships.
Mindful Intimate Relationships
Mindful intimate relationships involve being present, aware, and paying attention to the individuals in our relationships in a kind, gentle, accepting, nonjudgmental way. They involve an open attitude toward thoughts and feelings that arise in the most personal relationships in our lives. Through compassionate, mindful practice, we can integrate intimacy into our lives and cultivate powerful, meaningful relationship with ourselves, our significant others, partners, families, communities, and society.
The outcome of this lesson is for the learner to describe characteristics of intimate relationships and mindful ways to improve these relationships.
Mindful Awareness of the Effects of Climate Change on Nature and Health
Mindfulness, climate change, a connectedness to nature, and human health are intricately related. Mindful awareness of the effects of climate change on nature and health will help us develop new social practices and encourage a broader cultural shift toward a healthier planet. Numerous independent researchers and scientists all across the world know that Earth is warming and human activity is the primary cause. How much climate change we will experience in the future is dependent on the choices we all make as mindful global citizens to reduce our global emissions and reconsider our patterns of consumption.
The lesson of this course is for the learner to describe the relationship between mindfulness, climate change, the human connection to nature, and health concerns.
