Course Description

This interactive session provides teachers, teaching assistants, education assistants, and parents with essential knowledge and practical strategies to effectively support students on the autism spectrum in both mainstream and special education settings. The focus of this course will be on understanding the key characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and how these traits manifest in educational environments. You will learn about sensory needs, communication styles, behaviour, and emotional regulation. Through this course, you will acquire practical strategies to enhance communication, promote engagement, manage emotional regulation, facilitate transitions, and consider cultural factors for learners with ASD. The ultimate goal is to foster inclusion, connection, and success for all students.

Calgary Board of Education Employee Funding

Funding may be available to CBE employees through the Staff Association Staff Development Fund or the ATA Staff Development Fund.
