In this course, you will learn about the different types of medical writing that you can do, how to break into and succeed in this industry, and how to write effectively on medical topics, whether you're writing for healthcare providers, patients, or regulatory organizations like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. You will examine the various types of writing that you can do, from producing technical pieces like abstracts and regulatory documentation to writing breezier items like medical news stories and patient education materials. You will gain insights about what goes into putting together a solid and compelling article, regardless of what you are writing about or who you are writing for. You will review how to consider your audience and construct an outline that addresses your audience's informational needs. You will also learn how to keep your writing free of medical jargon and common grammatical errors while ensuring the scientific integrity of your work.

Medical Terminology: A Word Association Approach

The Medical Terminology – A Word Association Approach course will teach you to understand medical terminology pertaining to each body system. Using graphics and study tips, you will not only learn definitions and root terms but also their application in the medical world. Learning blocks are used to condense information and to help isolate what you need to know versus what is nice to know. You will be provided with fun and unusual facts to help you remember the medical terminology in unique ways.

Curt Simmons, B.A., M.Ed, is a best-selling author, trainer, and multi-media expert. He holds degrees in English and communication studies and has more than 10 years of experience teaching English and writing in the classroom. Additionally, Simmons has authored numerous books on a wide variety of technology topics and has been a technical editor for numerous other titles.

Douglas Best

Douglas Best is a trainer for Humana Military. He began working as a field medical instructor in the US Army in 1980. He has worked as a nurse in such areas as pediatrics, the emergency room, and the adult cardiac, surgical, newborn, and medical intensive care units. He is also a curriculum specialist and has developed workforce training programs including Medical Specialty Training for Displaced Workers, Certified Nursing Assistant in Spanish, and Medical Transcription for the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Christina Torster Loguidice

Christina Torster Loguidice is the executive VP and educational director of International Healthcare Media, overseeing all continuing medical education (CME) initiatives. She has more than 20 years of experience in medical education and communications, including developing and writing CME activities across medical specialties and managing peer-reviewed journals, supplements, and tabloids/magazines for healthcare professionals. She is also a published author of several technical and health books, including Cancer Nutrition and Recipes for Dummies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and German from Rutgers University.
